MVP OF THIS ERA: Namjoon! Silver Namjoon is always superior, and his quiff here is fine as hell. (That is the only explanation for the empty schoolroom they’re jumping about in.) Each member has three distinct looks in this one, and they are all great, but probably the best is when they are all in shirts, ties and jackets, but still looking like the guys you don’t bring home to mama. The school uniform look is big in K-pop, especially with wholesome young boy bands, but BTS gave the cliché a twist by making their version the bad boys of the school, often out of proper uniform and for sure in detention for it. And “Black Swan” might eventually be considered an era too, so all that black and the bare feet might work their way onto the list at some point in the future. Of course, this list is subject to change as soon as the Map of the Soul: 7’s title track MV is released on February 28, a week after the album drops. With a new era very - excitingly! - soon to be upon us, now seems like a good time to look back on some of the highlights of the septet’s 7-year career. The music, too, to an extent, but… less so. When we’re ass essing the era, basically what we’re assessing is the fashion, the hair and the general look of the thing.

The solo MVs don’t count, however (imagine “Intro: Persona” being an era!), so only group-wide numbers are in the running here. Here, a look at their very best eras…įirst, what is an “era” when it comes to K-pop in general, and BTS in particular? Basically, it’s a music video or promotional performance with a distinctive style choice - and for BTS, that is pretty much every single one. K-pop sensations BTS have gifted us with dozens of unique and often incredible looks throughout the years.
